Windy Woodthorpe wins through

The last of our summer event outings was at the first-ever family fun day organised by Woodthorpe Community Group on Woodthorpe Green to the south-west of York city centre. Yet again the sun shone, though the wind was far stronger than a summer breeze. This wasn’t ideal for the first appearance of our new game for children, “sticker pong”, which involved trying to get ping pong balls into glasses with Fairtrade stickers on them. Despite the adverse weather conditions, the game was popular with players and will probably reappear with a few refinements next year! Lots of people turned up to the fair, which had many family-friendly attractions and a live music stage. Overall, the event was much more successful than even the organisers had anticipated, and it raised over £1800 for St Leonard’s Hospice. A fantastic first effort and we hope it will be back next year.
