Saturday 30 September saw the forum’s first clothes swap event. Volunteers and stalls filled the church hall at St Lawrence’s church between 2 and 4, where we welcomed the public. Attendees brought three items of clothing they rarely wear any more – and we all have plenty of those, don’t we? In exchange for a £3 entrance fee shoppers were treated to Fairtrade tea or coffee, and homemade cakes made by the team using Fairtrade ingredients. Then they were able to browse the rails and take away any items for just £1.
With stalls selling fairly traded items, homemade items, a raffle and tombola the hall looked great.
The group made a healthy profit which will be used to support our work promoting fair trade in York. We hope to make this a regular event and hope when it becomes better known it will grow further in scale and popularity.
