We’re looking forward to Fairtrade Fortnight 2018 which runs from Monday 26 February to Sunday 11 March.
Before Fairtrade Fortnight starts you’ll find a Fairtrade theme at Acomb Parish Church’s regular monthly coffee and craft morning on Saturday 24 March. There will be a fair trade stall and Fairtrade tea and coffee available. Come on in 10.30 to 12.30.
Our main event will be a Business Breakfast meeting at Spurriergate Centre on Tuesday 6 March. Come on in for Fairtrade tea, coffee and juice and pastries with fair trade jams and spreads. The event will run from 8.30 to 10am and will give supporters an opportunity to find out how to increase awareness of the range of fair trade products available and find out about the work the Fair Trade Forum is doing in York.
Come along to York’s Fair Trade Shop, Fairer World on Wednesday 7 March for a coffee tasting. You will be able to sample coffee grown by women’s farming co-operatives in Nicaragua, Peru and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Later that evening at Friends Meeting House, Friargate there will be an event celebrating International Women’s Day, hosted by Northern Women for Palestine: ‘Women of Palestine – the Ongoing Nakba‘. (Nakba means Catastrophe, and refers to the creation of the State of Israel and the resulting oppression of the Palestinian people.) Come and celebrate the lives of Palestinian women through film, poetry and artworks, as they continue to resist and triumph over occupation, siege and dispossession.
On Saturday 10 March Norton and Malton Fair Trade Group is holding a fair trade and local craft fair at the Friends Meeting House in Malton, featuring stalls selling fair trade crafts, food and gifts as well as goods from local makers.
We’ll add more events as they are confirmed. If you’re in the York area and holding an event during Fairtrade Fortnight please let us know and we’ll help promote it any way we can.
