May 11th saw the marking of York as a Fair Trade City in a special way!
A dedicated service was held at St Lawrence’s Church. We were fortunate to have Mark Dawson speak to us as the past chair of the Fair Trade Forum when York was awarded its Fair Trade status. A Riding Lights member gave us a humorous and thought provoking sketch on climate, poverty and responsibility. The church members supported us hugely with the music, prayers and fantastic decoration of the church – we had flags from all corners of the world hung between the pillars.
Running along side this was a coffee afternoon in St Lawrence’s Church Hall where we had a wonderful array of fair trade cakes and sweet treats, tea and coffee. There was a fantastic display put together by members of the Fair Trade Forum, depicting the Forum events over the years. Fairer World, from their shop at 84Gillygate, had a stall selling a large selection of their Fair Trade products.
All this truly marked our 10th Anniversary.
Here’s to the next 10 years!
